Week Ahead Oct. 9-13 | HEART Message, Attendance & Lates, Patrols, Forms, Lunch Supervision, Casino

Dear Families,

Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend and Happy Thanksgiving. We hope you enjoy time with family and friends and know that we are thankful for your continued support of each and every student, our staff and our community as we work together through HEART (harmony, engagement, adaptability, respect and truth). The weather this weekend promises to provide warmth, vibrant colors and an opportunity to appreciate the land on which we live.

HEART Message

As we approach Thanksgiving, we recognize that there may be families in our school that are in need at this time. The Richmond School community would like to support any families that are in need of food and/or winter clothing such as hats, mitts, jackets and boots as the weather gets colder. Please reach out to Kelly Klassen at kdklassen@cbe.ab.ca if your family needs any assistance in these ways. We will handle any and all requests for support with the strictest confidence.

Attendance & Lates

Please note: The Calgary Board of Education recognizes the strong positive correlation between attendance and a student’s success in school. Regular attendance sets students on the path to reaching their full potential. Students arriving late to school/class impacts the student’s well-being as well as the well-being of their classmates. Please do your very best to ensure that your child(ren) arrive at school at 8:25am and may then enter the building with their classmates. Late arrivals to class impacts, class routines and teaching and learning.

AMA School Safety Patrols

This week our patrollers in Grade 5 and Grade 6 began to put their training into practice before and after school each day. Thank you for making sure to use the crosswalk as instructed by our student leaders and waiting until you hear a patroller say “Proceed!”, or the second whistle, before crossing. It is important to respect the City of Calgary bylaw forbidding parking within 5-metres of a crosswalk, as if a car is parked too close it is more difficult for drivers to see patrollers and pedestrians.

Demographic Forms

Thank you to those families who have completed the Demographic Forms, it is important the Richmond School have the correct information in our system. If you have not yet completed the Demographics Forms, please do so ASAP. If you need assistance, please reach out to Kelly Klassen at kdklassen@cbe.ab.ca

Lunch Supervision

Please note that child(ren) who stay at school for lunchtime are required to be registered for this service (this does not include those who are a part of the Richmond School Childcare Program). If you have not registered your child(ren) for this service please sign up using your MyCBE account.

School Council Update

A message was sent out earlier in the week with information regarding the upcoming Casino. We are still in need of volunteers! Thank you to those of you have generously given your time by already signing up.

November 11 and 12 Pure Casino 1420 MERIDIAN ROAD NE – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Every other year, your Richmond School Parent Association organizes volunteers from the school and community to take advantage of the opportunity to host a Casino. The funds raised from each Casino are used to provide our Richmond School students with educational programs, equipment, resources, books and special events they wouldn't otherwise have access to. Each event typically raises more than $60,000; that's $30,000+ per year that can be spent on improving our students' learning experience. If you are looking for a way to give back consider this; volunteering for one shift at our Casino is equivalent to donating ~$2,000. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
