Week Ahead Oct. 16-20 | HEART Message, Attendance, Patrols, Forms, Lunch Supervision, Casino

Dear Families,

As the weather changes students need to be prepared for the sunny, rainy and snowy days that may all occur in the same week. Please send your child(ren) to school with the appropriate clothing for inside and outside play. Layering of clothing is helpful; hoodies, light and heavy jackets etc. There is a need for rubber boats, umbrellas and mitts and toques already this week. Please also send an extra set of clothing that may be needed for falling in puddles, playing on a wet, lightly covered field of snow etc. Extra clothing placed in the student’s backbacks is helpful as we have very limited clothing at the school for back up; we would need to call a parent to bring clothing to the school if dry clothes are needed.

HEART Message

We need your HELP!
Please cross the street safely; we have our Richmond School Patrols to assist you and your family if needed. We encourage you to cross at the corners, please do not step out between cars or cross in the middle of the street. We ALL need to model safety and good practices for our community. We do need to keep the bus loading zone free at ALL times and it is important to keep the flow of traffic moving in front of the school.

Parents/Guardians may not stop in the middle of the road to let your child(ren) step out of the vehicle – this is dangerous and unsafe. We are concerned about the safety of each and every student. If any parents want to volunteer their time to help us out prior to school or at the end of the day, we welcome you and have a snazzy orange vest for you to wear J

Attendance & Lates

Please note: The Calgary Board of Education recognizes the strong positive correlation between attendance and a student’s success in school. Regular attendance sets students on the path to reaching their full potential. Students arriving late to school/class impacts the student’s well-being as well as the well-being of their classmates. Please do your very best to ensure that your child(ren) arrive at school at 8:25am and may then enter the building with their classmates at the door designated for their class. Late arrivals to class impacts class routines and teaching and learning for all students.

AMA School Safety Patrols

This week our patrollers in Grade 5 and Grade 6 began to put their training into practice before and after school each day. Thank you for making sure to use the crosswalk as instructed by our student leaders and waiting until you hear a patroller say “Proceed!”, or hear the second whistle, before crossing. It is important to respect the City of Calgary bylaw forbidding parking within 5-metres of a crosswalk, as when a car is parked too close to the crosswalk it is more difficult for drivers to see patrollers and pedestrians.

Demographic Forms

Thank you to those families who have completed the Demographic Forms! It is very important the Richmond School have the correct information in our system. If you have not yet completed the Demographics Forms, please do so ASAP. This can be done on your child's MyCBE account. If you need assistance, please reach out to Kelly Klassen at kdklassen@cbe.ab.ca

Lunch Supervision

Please note that child(ren) who stay at school for lunchtime are required to be registered for this service (this does not include those who are a part of the Richmond School Childcare Program). If you have not registered your child(ren) for this service please sign up using your MyCBE account.

November 11 and 12 Pure Casino 1420 MERIDIAN ROAD NE – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Every other year, your Richmond School Parent Association organizes volunteers from the school and community to take advantage of the opportunity to host a Casino. The funds raised from each Casino are used to provide our Richmond School students with educational programs, equipment, resources, books and special events they wouldn't otherwise have access to. Each event typically raises more than $60,000; that's $30,000+ per year that can be spent on improving our students' learning experience. If you are looking for a way to give back consider this; volunteering for one shift at our Casino is equivalent to donating ~$2,000. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
