Week Ahead Feb. 12-16 | Survey, Safety Reminder, Library Update, Valentine Fundraiser
Dear Families,
Students have been engaged in their learning through lessons on the Lunar New Year and Black History. Please ask them to share their learning experiences with you.
Alberta Education Assurance Survey
Each year, Alberta Education gathers feedback from students and their families. This year at Richmond School, Grade 4 students, as well as their parents/guardians, are asked to complete this survey. Students will completed the survey at school on Friday, January 26. Parents of Grade 4 students should have received information about this survey in the mail. Please take time to complete this survey as it provides the school with important information. Thank you!
Safety Reminder
We would like to remind everyone that it is imperative that parents are demonstrating safety at all times, especially at drop off and pick up times at the school.
We want to take this opportunity to remind parents to please not stop in the middle of the road to drop off your child(ren). Also, please do not park in the bus zone or staff parking lot and it is not lawful to park in the crosswalks or on the corners of our roads. We have even seen parents make u-turns in front of the school. Richmond Staff and students are concerned about the safety for one another.
We want to send out a sincere ‘thank you’ to our families who are showing HEART by modelling safe driving, safe parking and respecting the signs and rules on the bus zone areas, playground and school property. The students and staff greatly appreciate your efforts to work together in harmony to keep our school community safe.
Library Update
Each class has a weekly library time when students come to the Learning Commons to enjoy a read aloud and to take out books. We encourage students to choose their own books to read from the Learning Commons and take them home to read and even share with you. This ability to choose your own book to read is so important for students and has been shown to improve literacy. However, sometimes the books do not make it back to school and then students cannot take out any more until they are returned. Students are reminded at school about their overdue books and teachers write notes in the student’s agenda to remind you to look for these books at home. There are still a lot of books that have not been returned.
Please check at home for these overdue Richmond school library books and return them to school. This way, students will be able to pick out new books to read.
Ask your student what their library day is and encourage them to return their library books each week. For longer books, they can ask to renew them.
Thank you so much for your help with this.

Library Assistant
Grade 6 Valentine Fundraiser

Students are able to buy a Candy Gram for themselves, or someone in the community that has shown them HEART such as a friend, teacher, parent or relative. Students will be able to purchase Candy Grams during lunchtime on Monday February 12. The cost of a Candy Gram is $5.
